LOSFA Opens Applications for the 2024 John R. Justice Student Loan Repayment Program

LOSFA Provides $100,000 in Repayment Relief to 15 Eligible Attorneys (State and Federal Public Defenders and State Prosecutors)

Baton Rouge, LA- As of January 1, 2024, the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA), a Program of the Board of Regents, is accepting applications for the 2024 John R. Justice Student Loan Repayment Program award. This program is funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance. It provides five public defenders and ten prosecutors employed in the state of Louisiana with student loan repayment relief if they meet certain eligibility requirements. Interested individuals can access the online application here.

State and federal public defenders who had been employed as such in Louisiana for at least one year as of December 31, 2023, must agree to remain employed in a qualified position for at least three years to receive the award. Additional eligibility conditions and restrictions can be found here.

This year’s total award is $100,000.00 and will be disbursed as follows:

The deadline to apply for this program is April 30, 2024. Applicants must sign and return the Service Level Agreement to be considered for the award. Failure to respond will result in elimination from consideration. Interested applicants with questions or concerns should contact sgsp@la.gov.
