Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance Releases Important Funding Information for the Geaux Teach Scholarship Program

LOUISIANA OFFICE OF STUDENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE RELEASES IMPORTANT FUNDING INFORMATION FOR THE GEAUX TEACH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Informational Resources, Eligibility Requirements, Award Allocations Now Available for Students Enrolled in Teacher Preparation Programs Across Louisiana
Baton Rouge, La. – This week, the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance provided important information regarding the Geaux Teach Scholarship Program to colleges and alternative teacher certification providers. This scholarship program was established in Act 463 of the 2022 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature to provide additional funding to qualified students who are enrolled in teacher preparation programs approved by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) at postsecondary education institutions within the state. Funding is also available to students attending certified alternative teacher preparation programs approved by BESE. A complete listing of participating programs and the Geaux Teach Application Form can be found on LOSFA’s website.
Students who are interested in the Geaux Teach Scholarship Program must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Must be enrolled full-time in an approved teacher preparation program at an approved institution or be enrolled in an approved, alternative certified teacher education program through the census date;
- Must have at least a 2.50 cumulative college grade point average;
- Must be a Louisiana resident for at least two years prior to July 1, immediately preceding the academic year of enrollment; and
- Must be a United States citizen and, if required, registered with the Selective Service.
Interested students should complete the Geaux Teach Scholarship Application found on LOSFA’s website at mylosfa.la.gov and provide it to their school. The school will determine each student’s eligibility and the amount of the award. LOSFA will distribute funds directly to the school. The maximum annual award is $5,000 which can be applied to:
- Cost of tuition
- Required fees
- Textbooks, and
- Instructional materials
Funds shall be awarded after all state and institutional financial aid is applied, and summer term awards are allowed.
The Geaux Teach Scholarship Program is not affiliated with any “Geaux Teach” degree programs administered by postsecondary institutions.
