Louisiana College Application & Access Month
Assisting students with their post-secondary (college, career, military) plans
The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance has collaborated with key education partners in the State of Louisiana to develop and implement Louisiana College Application and Access Month for high school seniors since October 2015 as part of the American College Application Campaign.
The American College Application Campaign (ACAC), as of January 2019, is now an effort of the ACT center for equity, is a national initiative to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students to pursue a post-secondary education. The purpose is to help high school seniors navigate the college admissions process and to ensure that each participating student submits at least one admissions application.
In 2013, the Louisiana GEAR UP program, in conjunction with the Lafayette GEAR UP program, launched its Louisiana College Application Week pilot program in 25 high schools. Due to the success of the Louisiana College Application Week pilot, LOSFA expanded this initiative from one week to the entire month of October and is inviting all interested Louisiana high schools to participate.
As of the 2019 campaign, more than 70 high schools participated in LCAAM yearly with a total of 478 high schools hosting college application events since 2013.
