LOSFA Celebrates National School Counseling Week, February 3–7, 2025

Baton Rouge, La., — The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) is proud to celebrate National School Counseling Week, which will be celebrated February 3-7, 2025. Sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), the week is designed to focus public attention on the unique contributions of school counselors within U.S. schools and how students are supported in their academic, career, and social-emotional development.

This year’s theme is “School Counselors: Helping Students Dream Big,” highlighting the essential role school counselors play in helping students realize their potential and achieve success in all areas of life. Throughout the week, LOSFA will highlight counselors’ important roles in student achievement.

“LOSFA supports counselors by providing training and professional development opportunities, sharing financial aid and college readiness resources, and offering guidance on best practices for helping students navigate their educational paths,” said Hailey Pellegrin, Outreach Coordinator. “LOSFA has a dedicated staff member for counselors when they need one-on-one assistance with students and parents.”

Counselors are crucial for students as they provide emotional and mental health support while helping them navigate challenges. They guide academic planning and career exploration, ensuring students make informed choices. In times of crisis, counselors address urgent issues and connect students with necessary resources. Additionally, they teach essential life skills and advocate for students’ needs, fostering a supportive school environment that promotes overall well-being and success.

Visit the ASCA’s official website for more information and resources on participating in National School Counseling Week. Parents or community members with specific questions or concerns about school counseling programs should contact the school counselors at their local schools.
