LOSFA receives a $75,000 award to support summer FAFSA Completions

Baton Rouge, LA- The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) is one of more than 75 organizations that received awards to support summer FAFSA® completions from the FAFSA Student Support Strategy, funded by the Educational Credit Management Corporation (ECMC). The goal is to increase the number of students who complete a 2024-25 FAFSA® form and enroll in college, particularly first-time students.

LOSFA is using its award to launch the Geaux FAFSA® Tour, which will provide additional support during the summer for students who have yet to file a FAFSA® and those who previously submitted a FAFSA® but need to make corrections. The agency has partnered with postsecondary institutions and other organizations to host in-person and virtual FAFSA® Completion events across the state. FAFSA® Virtual Office Hours have been extended to offer one-on-one completion assistance as well.

“The challenges that came with the 2024-25 Better FAFSA® are still having an impact on Louisiana families, so it’s critical that we continue to provide hands-on assistance for students who need access to financial aid to be able to enroll this coming fall,” said Ebony Holmes, Director of Public Information and Advising. “A submitted FAFSA® is just the first step of the process. We have to make sure those FAFSA® forms are also error-free and complete, so the students are eligible for aid, like the Federal Pell Grant, the Louisiana GO Grant, TOPS, and even some forms of institutional aid.”

Families can register for virtual assistance through office hours, while those in the Baton Rouge area can register for in-person assistance at LOFSA’s FAFSA® lab. Wyatt, the digital FAFSA® advisor, is also available 24/7 to assist with FAFSA® issues.
